Do you guys remember chain letters? Because my nervous system sure does.

This week my daughter handed me a chain letter from a friend and the moment I saw the words “Send this to 10 people or else…” my millennial soul left my body.

I was instantly transported back to 1994, having a full-blown meltdown in our kitchen, begging my dad to let me use the dial-up internet just one more time so I could forward an email to 18 people and avoid a lifetime of bad luck, loneliness, and possibly being haunted by a Victorian ghost.

Meanwhile, my daughter’s smile faded as she watched the color drain from my face. She promised me it wasn’t real. I’m still not convinced.

Because so many of you were horrified by what my doctor said last week, I thought this might provide some context. Infuriating context, but context nonetheless.

Saw this and loved it. Had to share. Source: @anotherclay

On a similar note, I saved this video a few weeks ago from a guy talking about chasing your dreams. Linking it here, and providing a portion of the text below:

“I’d rather be cringe than bland. I’d rather be helpful to a portion of people and hated by another portion of people than to be liked by everyone. I’d rather be the actor than the critic. I’d rather be the athlete than the spectator. I’d rather be enthusiastic and excited and have morale than be apathetic. I’d rather have skin in the game. I’d rather give a shit. My kind of cool is giving a shit….

…I wanna be in the action and I prefer people who want to be in the action. Not the talkers not the sitter arounderers, not the critics, not the spectators. The doers. The actors. The ones who are out there giving it a crack. I’ll take cringe over any of that. I’ll take the cringe give me all the cringe.”

A girl on TikTok asked people to share their awkward encounters and I was crying laughing at the comment section. Linking the video here, copy and pasted a sample of the comments below.

(In order from left to right)

  1. The Wedding People: Not the typical genre I go for, but I loved this book. I don’t want to give too much away but it’s about a woman who shows up to a fancy hotel during a big wedding weekend, trying to escape her own life. She’s mistaken for a guest, and ends up bonding with the bride. It’s funny, dark, and insightful.

  2. The Four Seasons: I finished the season (mentioned this show a few weeks ago) and really enjoyed it, the ending was bittersweet.

A part II because last week’s post was so popular. As a recap…

I’ve been on my own journey these past few years, and if life had a customer service counter, I’d be standing there with a crumpled receipt, asking if I could return all the pride I no longer fit into.

What follows is a (very incomplete) list of 10 beliefs I’ve shed, the opinions I’ve softened, and the hills I’m no longer willing to die on.
