I told my daughter I was impersonating Miranda Priestly from The Devil Wears Prada in my newsletter today (see rant below), and with zero hesitation she goes, ‘Hey, remember when you used to dress nice, like in the movie? What happened?’
Mind you, she said this all while gesturing at my ‘elevated loungewear’ like it was a war crime. This child was sent by God to humble me.
If you need me, I’ll be crying into my outdated blazers.
Oh okay.
I read this post on IG, saved it, and couldn’t stop thinking about it. Linking it here, and sharing the text below for anyone that needs to hear it:
“I’ll never forget when I heard this…’If you water dead plants long enough, you’ll start to believe the problem is you.’
Because for so long I thought if I just loved harder, tried more, they’d finally bloom. I blamed myself for the withering. My needs were too much. My love, not enough. My boundaries inconvenient. But the truth is, some things don’t grow because they’re not meant to, not because you failed. And sometimes the bravest thing you can do is stop watering. Walk away. And plant yourself somewhere you can finally grow as you. You were never too much. You were simply planted in a place that couldn’t meet your roots.”
Someone on TT asked: What quote gives you chills? Linking the post here. Sharing a sample below.
-Cemeteries are filled with people who thought they had more time.
-I always wonder why birds choose to stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on Earth, then I ask myself the same question.
-By a Vietnam Solider, “We the unwilling, led by the unqualified, to kill the unfortunate, die for the ungrateful.”
-People like being lied to. They just don’t like finding out they’re being lied to.
-Showing your emotions to the wrong people is like bleeding next to a shark.
-A sheep spends its whole life in fear of the wolf, only to be eaten by the shepherd.
-I was ashamed of myself when I realized life is a masquerade party, and I attended with my real face
-Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance
-A man who fears suffering is already suffering from what he fears
Love Island: YOU GUYS. Why is this show all over my social media? I’m so behind on all my other shows. Do I need to drop everything and watch this? Please advise.
Jon Stewart on Trevor Noah’s Pod: Really enjoyed this episode. They talked comedy, polities, life. Loved it.
To everyone who’s signed up for the paid portion: you are the wind beneath my extremely opinionated wings. Thank you. I know there are approximately 900 streaming platforms, 47 newsletter subscriptions, and a partridge in a pear tree vying for your dollars, so I don’t take it lightly.
And if you’ve been curious but hesitant (no pressure at all!), just know the $5/month option isn’t a blood pact. You can cancel anytime with a single, commitment-free click (no breakup texts required). Think of it as buying me a fancy coffee once a month, except instead of caffeine, you get deep dives on all the crazy sh*t going on in my brain.
And bonus, you unlock the secret vault of paywalled posts.
Recently, a wildly popular influencer, whose name I won’t mention because I believe in mercy, went viral for a now-deleted TikTok. In it, she looked into the camera, on the day of the King’s Parade protests, and asked with genuine confusion: “Why is everyone so miserable all the time? Why can’t people just be happy?”
Which, first of all, stunning insight, thank you for your service. A hot new take we’ve never, ever heard before, right up there with “Why don’t poor people just save money?”
And second of all, it’s just the latest remix of a well-worn tune: the belief that being politically aware means you're allergic to joy, or that caring deeply about the world is somehow incompatible with living happily in it. A tune I hear constantly. Like when I so much as mention politics online and someone inevitably slides into my DMs to inform me that it's all, and I quote, “EXTREMELY BORING.” (All caps. Her emphasis, not mine.)
It’s all part of the same tired narrative. To which I say, with all due respect and several jazz hands, is absolutely false.
