8 Things I Always Have to Remind Myself
Last one always hits me in the gut
Happy FRIDAY!
How are we already a week away from Halloween? My favorite season is flying by.
Do you dress up for Halloween? I admire people who go all out with elaborate costumes every year. Every year, I tell myself, “This is the year I’ll do something epic!” And every year I just draw whiskers on my face with eyeliner, declare myself a cat, and call it a day.
BRB going to go stock up on soap bars.
Love this:
“You have to resurrect the deep pain within you. Give it a place to live that is not within your body. Let it live in art. Let it live in writing. Let it live in music. Let it be devoured by building brighter connections. Your body is not a coffin for pain to be buried in, put it somewhere else. You need to have outlets for your pain.”

Such a good reminder that your body isn’t meant to be a graveyard for pain. Transform it into something meaningful or beautiful—something that helps you grow instead of consuming you.
“If you’re a friend to everybody, you’re an enemy to yourself.”
—Mike Tyson
Charlie Mackesy: I’ve read and gifted The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse a million times, but I had never seen or heard the author speak before. Charlie was on Paul Brunson’s podcast, and it was such a beautiful conversation about life, kindness, friendship, mental health, etc. He’s just as beautiful a human as I thought he would be. Highly recommend—it’s the episode from 10/13, available on YouTube, Apple, or Spotify. I bought his new book and will report back.
Next of Kin: This is a legal thriller and was a page turner—the ending OMG did not expect that. Really enjoyed it.
Death in Apartment 603: This documentary was WILD. I hadn’t heard of this case before, but this woman was found dead, and they kept going back and forth between calling it a suicide or a homicide. I feel so frustrated for her family.
I read an essay earlier this week that suggested a bunch of great questions to ask friends. Two of them really stuck with me: “What’s a lesson you need to keep learning?” and “What’s a piece of advice you give to others but struggle to abide by?”
Without hesitation, about fifty answers rushed to the front of my brain, all waving their hands like overachievers.
Some people collect stamps. Others collect houseplants. I collect lessons I need to relearn on an annual basis. Despite years of self-reflection (and therapy receipts), I continue to major in “Hypocrisy with a minor in Good Intentions.”
Here are the eight things I personally have to keep reminding myself of, which always come up in therapy:
